I'm so frustrated. I wanted to go on my practice run for the bicycle tour today but there's a 60% chance of thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon. I could deal with a few showers but thunderstorms generally means a 'torrential downpour' and I don't have a raincoat yet. First, Memorial Day weekend blocked me. Now, this.

I suppose I shouldn't be so frustrated. This may actually turn out for the best. I should be able to pick up the backpacking tent I ordered from REI later this week. Since I want to keep my motel stays down during the real bicycle tour, camping might be the better option. More practice and all that. Besides, there's a rails-to-trails trail that I want to explore in the area I'm going to. I probably wouldn't be able to do so in overnight trip. Since camping for 3-4 nights costs the same as one night in a hotel, I'll be able to extend the practice run to include that trail and feel less guilty about spending so much in a short amount of time. I'd still have to buy food but that's cheap when you buy from grocery stores instead of restaurants. So, I'll probably go on Saturday or Sunday.

I feel for you, girl. We keep getting storms and then the damn electricity goes out. But... I guess I should be grateful that we have rain and not be in a drought like a lot of places. :o)

Hope it all works out for you.

Been poured on myself. Buy a can or two of water repellent spray for your new tent. It so sucks to sleep in a leaky tent!

Hey, my son has a 9 hour layover in Minneapolis tomorrow and plans to spend it in the Mall of America. Don't you hate it?

Besides the rain aspect, it seems that you have everything planned. I am happy for your commitment and excited for your bicycle tour. Good luck!

Titania - Oh, yeah. At least Minnesota hasn't had rains like you guys experienced recently! That can be devastating for the farmers in the country.

Ferd - Ooh, the spray sounds like a great idea.

To be fair, I hate all malls and don't really understand why people come here JUST to see a giant mall. But, I definitely think it's more interesting than spending 9 hours at the airport! Hope your son had fun. :)

Charles - Thanks! I'm sure I'll have missed something but that's part of the fun of travel, getting hit with the unexpected. :)
