When I entered the Upper Peninsula, I started seeing signs for 'pasties'. Just yesterday, I finally asked what they were. According to the girl at the gas station, miners used to bring them for lunch. They're a lot like Russian perogies. A meat filling wrapped in a Hot Pockets crust. The miners used to warm them with the lights from their helmets.
