Summer 2008 Bicycle Tour - June 22

June 22, 2008 - 68 miles

The scenery has been forest, forest, and more forest. Every now and again, I'll be cycling down the road and something will rustle in the woods beside me. I'll turn my head and see a deer bounding off farther into the woods. Early this morning, just outside Glidden, one ran straight in front of me across the road. I braked and turned to watch it. It stopped on the other side, turned and stood frozen for a few seconds. Of course, as soon as I tried to get the camera out of the handlebar bag, it ran back into the forest.

I ended tonight at the Boulder Junction Motor Lodge. I didn't want to spend the money on a hotel room so soon again but the next campground (that I knew of) was 13 miles down the road and I'd already done 68. Ate dinner at the Boulder Beer Bar. For some reason, I've always felt uncomfortable in bars. I don't drink so I feel I don't really belong there. Decent food, though and the motel was one of the cleanest I've ever been in. Oh, and I had a girlish "Eeeewww!" moment when I showered and flicked a tick off my arm.

This came out a lot gloomier than I had hoped. It was taken from the bleachers that I talked about in the last post.

I woke up early enough to catch the morning moon. :)

In front of the city park, there was a huge tank that's maintained by the VFW in memory of soldiers who have died. Because a giant instrument of death is the perfect way to do that. (I kid. I kid. ...Kinda.)

I have no clue which lake this was. One of the hazards of not organizing your photos right away!
