Summer 2009 Bicycle Tour?

I'm 90% certain Mt. Rushmore and the Black Hills in western South Dakota is my destination for a July-August 2009 bicycle tour. :)

That would be so cool! My parents took me to Mount Rushmore when I was a kid...my (much older) sister actually attended the University of South Dakota for a couple of years, I guess she wanted to get as far from New Jersey as possible. I'm not sure how far it is from Mount Rushmore but be on the lookout for Wall Drug...it is a funny tourist spot. Signs every mile on the highway telling you it is coming soon, etc.
Hope you'll go and hope we'll hear about it.

P.S. -- I'm not sure if I've asked before, but do you have any interest in contributing to a Roxy's Best Of... Minneapolis blog? It would be easy for me to set you up, then no pressure, just post whenever you feel like it about all the great things in your fair (but COLD!!) city.

Wouldn't it, though? I was lamenting the fact that there aren't real landmarks in Minnesota. Then, I realized, 'Hey, wait! Mt. Rushmore is close! And I've never been there.'

I was considering a S. Dakota college when I was younger but I realized any town would be too small for me. But, I bet it's beautiful to wander through!

Hmm, maybe. I'm having problems with lack of motivation to do anything.

Woohoo!! That sounds like a great trip!
But be careful about thinking these places are "close." Those are huge states with huge real estate. There are a lot of empty places with nothing to see in between the cool ones.

Ferd - Oh, yeah. I know how desolate parts of South Dakota are. I drove through North Dakota once and I imagine S. Dakota isn't much more populated. I'll probably grab another set of panniers before I go so that I can be sure I'll always have enough water.

This is such a great picture--definitely a spot I've always wanted to see!
