Nothing in Particular

(I missed day 7 but the world won't end.)

I've never been a fitness buff. In high school, I did whatever I could to get out of gym class. The only reason I care these days is because of my relatively new hobby of bicycle touring. Now, all of a sudden, I'm doing crunches, pushups, and lunges every other day.

I haven't been on the bicycle since sometime last fall. There are people around here who cycle through the winter. Personally, I can't stand it. While I could bundle up against the cold, the snow and ice make me nervous. It's far too easy to slip and fall. To keep in shape, I should have bought a trainer, a device that basically converts your bicycle into a stationary cycle. But, I winced at the $200 minimum I'd have to spend and bought "My Fitness Coach" for the Wii instead. It's not really a game. It's more like a fitness DVD. And it KILLS me. Apparently, I have the upper body strength of a 3 year old. Trying to do cardio that involves my arms is nearly impossible but I seem to be slowly improving.

Today was perfect cycling weather, sixty degrees and sunny. Most of the snow has melted off. I almost went for a short ride but I want to do some maintenance on the bike first; refilling the tires, lubing the chain, etc. Maybe tomorrow.

(Day 7...is really day 8.)

It's the same for me every year, I am just dying to get back out on my bike!

You know, we are in the process of moving to NC. In fact, I have an apartment there now, and I am there every other week. (My job is one crazy week on, and then one week off.) Gail and Eric remain in Toledo until we sell the house. So I am commuting back to Toledo on my weeks off. The only part that kills me is that NC already has very good cycling weather! I have joined the very active local bike club. The scenery and terrain are to die for! And I don't even have a bike down there yet! But soon...

BTW, I do have a trainer that I bought fairly cheap on eBay.

Ack! That's gotta be rough running between the two states. Hope the house sells soon!

I've thought about joining one of the local bike clubs. There's at least 2 geared toward casual riders but I'm afraid they'll yell at me for my smoking habit, haha.
