The Kitty of Minnehaha Park

This afternoon, I went to Minnehaha Park to look around for markers and sculptures and ended up stumbling across something unusual: A cat. He appeared from behind some bushes near the Longfellow House, stared straight at me, and settled into the grass. Outdoor cats are pretty rare around here so I wonder if he's a stray. He did have a collar but when I moved closer to him (or her), he bolted back into the bushes.

Just before I saw him, I was walking through the nearby gardens. Something black crossed the path. It was smaller, the size of a rat or a gerbil. At least I know he has dinner!

Beautiful cat, he looks very regal sitting there. Love the quote on the top of your blog.

And I bet his dinner is tastier than the cat food I'm getting tonight.

I thought it was interesting that outdoor cats are rare there. We don't have a lot here either, yet we are in a city in the middle of a pretty rural area. When I lived in the suburbs, not far from a major highway, there were far more feral cats. Most were dropped out of cars along the highway. I adopted a couple but many of the cats were too wild after being free awhile. I think they had much better chances than the dogs did.
