An $80 Netbook

About a week ago, I was scanning through CVS's weekly ad when I came across an advertisement for a $99.99 netbook. I perked up and thought, ' I waaaant it!' But, then, the logical side of me shot back with a 'But it can't be very good. It'll probably break within a month!' The emotional side won and I bought it.

Sylvania 7" Netbook

There was some logic involved in the decision too, though. I've been looking for a cheap netbook to bring along while bicycle touring. It didn't need to be super-fancy. All I really needed it to do was upload text and photos. If I spent $300 or more on a notebook from Best Buy, I'd be constantly nervous about it breaking or getting wet. At less than $100, I have less of an emotional attachment to it.

When I ordered it, I wasn't sure whether it would be able to transfer photos from my camera to the internet. But, all I have to do is move the SD card from the camera to the computer's SD slot and it works! It comes with a basic text editor so I'm set there. I haven't used it to connect the internet yet but, after watching somebody else's review on YouTube, it seems fast enough. I love this thing. :)

AND CVS was running a special for $20 off if you spend $80 or more so the total price was $79.99 plus tax. I win the frugality game.

Wow. That's amazing.

I'm pretty sure nothing can come even close to that in Canada.

Patti - I know! I never expected to find one for under $200. I'm wondering how long the battery stays charged though.

Great deal!!!
My daughter was looking for a netbook and would have bought it at this price. Now she's suffering with my two year old, hand me down MacBook!
This will be great for your bike travels and postings. I am looking forward to them! Has the snow melted yet!?

Ferd - Your hand me down is probably better. This one only has 128MB RAM and a 2GB hard drive. But I just wanted a glorified word processor so it's fine.

Yup, the snow has melted! :) I'm pulling the bike out of the garage in the next day or two. :)
