First bike ride of the year and a sculpture

The first thing I thought this afternoon when I jumped onto my bicycle for the first time this year was, 'Why do I feel more comfortable on a bicycle than I do in a car or walking?' Seriously. As soon as the bike started moving, it was as though my body said, "Where have you been?!?" and breathed a sigh of relief.

It wasn't a long ride. Just down the street to a local park and around its trails. I probably could have gone a couple miles further if I paced myself but I didn't want to overexert myself after months off the bike.

On the way, I came across this...

Sculpture in Veteran's Park, Richfield, MN

I've been going to this park for years but I didn't notice the sculpture until a few weeks ago when I was going past in a car. Unfortunately, I forgot to look for a plaque so I don't know the name or who the artist was. To the camera's left, there was a three-panel wall inscribed with the names of soldiers and their branches. But, I have no clue if they were deceased or what wars they fought in or anything about it, really. It is right next to a VFW building. Maybe they were somehow connected to that VFW.

So I guess this will merit an update or a Part Two, so we can get more detail.

Isn't it great to get back on the bike!? I did the same about a month ago and have been road biking a lot. In fact, I have a new bike! Maybe I should blog about it.

Anyway, glad you're back on it and that it makes you happy! :-)

I'm sure I'll go back to look for the plaque sometime soon.

Ooh! New bikes are always fun. Definitely blog about it! :)

I actually went out with the guy who modeled for this statue. It was a few years ago, it didn't last and I can't remember his name but it's him.

Jen - That's awesome! I'll definitely have to go back there and look for more info.
