Google Biking Directions

I've always loved Google Maps. The only problem I had with it before now is that I couldn't easily use it to figure out a good cycling route to somewhere. Their driving directions won't work if you're walking or cycling because the route they give uses inner-city freeways or interstates. And, of course, driving directions completely ignore all of the very useful trails.

But, wait! Look! They now have bicycling directions in beta.

The other three tabs at the top left are for driving, walking, and public transit.

As far as I can tell, it only works in the US and Canada. I tried to plot routes in England, Japan, and Mexico. None of them worked. And when I tried to plot a route from Vancouver, Canada to Toronto, almost all of it went through the US. So, it's a little biased towards routes in America.

Going through the US to get from Vancouver to Toronto? Why would anyone want to go to Toronto?! Ok, really, maybe Bugs Bunny drew the map (beware the left turn at Albuquerque!)? Actually, I'm thinking there are probably bike paths that route.

Finally I can comment on all the Blogger blogs. That outage lasted longer than ever!
This is so cool! I'm going to try it right away!
