I Hate Bike Thieves

Well, I guess I'm not going bicycle touring in July. Last night, somebody stole my bicycle out of my garage. A new  touring bicycle will cost at minimum $850. Plus sales tax and a new rack, panniers, multitool, handlebar bag, and speedometer. Needless to say, it'll take me a few months of saving to be able to afford that. :-( A new Novara Randonee (the bike that was stolen) would cost $1200 new but I was looking at the Novara Safari before and I like the fact that it's more mountain bike-ish. And $350 less than a Randonee. Plus, I like the different handlebars on the Safari. I don't normally curse but whoever stole the bike is an asshole and I hope (s)he ends up roadkill.

Me, my parents, and the police officer who took the report are all kinda wondering if somebody knew the value of the bike. Because, although there are a large number of bike thefts around here, it's pretty rare that somebody goes into a garage in the middle of the night and takes just a bicycle. (Granted, there isn't much else in there that's worth anything. Maybe some very old stereo equipment.) The next one is either getting taken inside or I'm locking it up to something stable in the garage. I don't have much hope for the police finding the stolen one.

On the bright side, they never saw the other pannier that was in another part of the garage which had some of my camping equipment in it. At least I still have all of my camping equipment.

This is the worst thing I have heard in a very, very long time! Kayla, you live for your summer biking/touring. You dream about it. It is an important part of your life. And some asshole took that all away. I am killing him in my mind!!!
I am feeling sad/anxious/angry. This is just SO WRONG!!!

Big hug!

Seriously! The only material things I really value are my bicycle and my computer. And I have a lot of sentimental attachment to that bike because I used it on my first long-distance ride.

I'm considering a folding bike for my next purchase. That way I can take it inside at night.
