New computers are fantastic fun

Ah, I've been such a dreadful blogger lately. But part of the time that I wasn't updating was because my computer died a quiet, sudden death. One night, at the very end of August, my computer kept giving me display errors. I decided to restart. It turned off and never turned back on again. I don't know exactly what was wrong with it but, when I opened the case, there was a distinct smell of something burning.
'Time for a new computer,' I decided. Actually, it was long past due since the old one had been bought sometime in 2008.

I ended up buying one of the custom bundles from Ibuypower on Walmart's site. I don't actually recommend doing that. The computer itself is fine but it took forever to get here. I placed the order on September 3rd. It shipped out on September 12 and finally got to me at 5:30pm on September 18th. Over 15 days is a looooong time to be without a computer. (No "first world problems' comments, please. :-p) I wasn't completely without internet access since Minneapolis-St. Paul has a fantastic library system and I could borrow my father's barebones laptop but it's impossible to play WoW and Sims 3 on those and I'm addicted to those games.

The computer itself isn't the best you could get but it'll do for my needs and it's much faster than my old computer, which had been showing signs of impending death. It's got an AMD fx-4100 processor, 8GB RAM, 1TB hard drive, and a 1GB NVIDIA GT520 graphics card. I had a slight worry when it got here and I plugged it in. The fan was LOUD. You could almost hear it on the floor below. But, I opened the case and discovered that some wires were rubbing against it. Easy fix.

Now, I just have to wait for 19.8GB of World of Warcraft to download along with The Sims 3, its 7 expansion packs, and a few stuff packs. Glad I have broadband.

the burning smell might have been the powersupply going. I know because that has happened to me. I just got a new powersuppy and installed that instead of buying a new computer. there will be a day that I will have to breakdown and but a new one.but not just yet.

Yeah, that's one of the possible things wrong with it that I came across when I was researching why it died. But, it was 4+ years old so it was time to upgrade anyway. :)

Yay for nice new computers! My PC went a few month back but Le Husband replaced the graphics card and power supply and it is all better now!
